Reports like the one you notice in the image above are a silent reminder of the fact that Dowry is Archaic and it needs to be where everything else that is outdated needs to be. BURIED. Growing up, when i used to hear such news/incidents, the consolation was to tell myself that things are going to change in “MY” generation, but the sad fact is that nothing has changed, nothing is changing and nothing seems to be on the verge of changing in the near future. There was this news about this 30 yr old software engineer who got arrested for demanding dowry. Many have died because of dowry. But apart from the culprits usually getting away scot free, what is more shocking is the silence of Indians in general. Yeah you read it right, they do go scot free. I have read and archived many reports where in the parents of the victim withdraw their cases because they have other daughters who need to be get married and such a case would hamper their chances.
India Sleeping: Why was there no hint from the National Commission for Women regarding India slowly emerging as one of the most dangerous place for women to be in the World. It took an International agency to drive home to point into our minds. It is time we not only woke up to the seriousness of these issues but also took actions in our day to day lives.
Tip: Take a print out of the campaign posters that i have made to highlight these issues and put it on your notice boards in Schools, Office, wherever you can. Awareness is the first step to fighting any evil. So lets start from there.
